Photos or Images are not displaying in thumbnail view on Windows 7

In Windows 7, photos and images should display in thumbnail view. If they are not showing in thumbnail view, follow the simple instructions to fix it.


1. There might be a change in the  "View". To confirm that, Open the folder that you are having problem >> Click on the drop down arrow on "Change View" button at top right corner of the folder >> Make sure that either "Large" or "Extra large" were selected.


If it is already selected as Large or Extra Large, go to next steps

2. You need to go to folder options. Open any folder >> Click on "Organize" >> Click on "Folder and search options" >> Go to "View" tab >>  Uncheck the box beside the option "Always show icons, never thumbnails"(The first option in the "View" tab) >> Click on "OK".



This will fix the thumbnail view. If you are still having the issue, go to next step

3. Click on "Start" button >> Type "Cleanmgr.exe" in the search bar >> Press "Enter key" >> Click on "OK"

4. You will get Disk Cleanup window that says "Calculating." and then the Disk Cleanup options screen.

 
 5. Select "Thumbnails" box >> Click on "OK"

How to speed up the shutdown process in Windows

Your PC might take long time to shutdown and start again. We can speed up the shutdown process by making some changes to the computer settings and registry.


1. First thing is take backup of Registry before performing any changes to the registry.

2. Optimizing Startup Items:
a. Press Windows key + R at a time >> Type "msconfig" without the quotes in the Run box >> Press Enter.

b. Click on the "Startup" tab on the "System Configuration Utility" window that prompts >> Uncheck the items that you are not using. (You can disable all the startup items. It will not affect your computer)

c. Click on Apply and click on Ok





Making changes to the Registry
3. Press Windows key + R at a time >> Type "regedit" (without the quotes) in the Run box >> Press Enter key
4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\
5. In the right side window, you will see "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" entry >> Double click on "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" >> Change the value from 12000 to 2000


6. Then go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
7. In the right side window, you will see "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" entry >> Double click on "WaitToKillServiceTimeout" >> Change the value to 2000

8. Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management >> Double click on "ClearPageFileOnShutdown" entry >> Change the value to 1

9. You can also use a Run command to shutdown or restart the computer.

10. To Shutdown the PC >> Press the Windows Key +R at a time >> Type "shutdown -s -t 01" without the quotes >> Press Enter key

11. To Restart the PC >> Press the Windows Key + R >> Type "shutdown -r -t 01" without the quotes >> Press Enter key

How to fix missing "New Folder" option on your computer.

In some cases we cannot find the "New Folder" option after right clicking on desktop screen and also on Windows Explorer. This issue will occur due to some corrupt registry entries. You can fix it very easily.




1. Download the Registry fix file New Folder Fix

2. Double click on the downloaded registry file >> Click on "Run" >> Click on "Yes"

3. Restart the computer

4. That's it, you will get the "New Folder" option back.

How to remove Folder tasks screen from your Desktop screen

You will see a screen that contains Folder tasks or Common tasks on your desktop. Mostly it will be at left side of your desktop screen. It is very annoying screen that will cover your desktop screen. It is mainly because of a corrupt registry key (desktop.htt).

1. It's very easy to fix the problem.


2. Simply download the registry fix file Download

3. Double click on the downloaded file >> Click on "Yes" if you get any prompt.

4. Restart the computer. It will fix the problem.

5. You can also do it manually. Follow the below steps

6. Press Windows key + R key at a time >> Type "regedit" without the quotes >> Press Enter key

7. Take a backup of Registry  first.  How to Backup your Registry

8. Then go to the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00021400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\shellex\ExtShellFolderViews\{5984FFE0-28D4-11CF-AE66-08002B2E1262}

9. You will see "PersistMoniker" in the side pane, change it's value to "file://%userappdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop.htt" without the quotes.

10. Restart the PC. That's it.

How to Backup your Registry..

In some cases, you might need to modify/delete few registry keys from your Registry. It is very dangerous to play with the registry keys or delete registry keys without knowing what you are doing and if you are not good at computers. Best thing is to take backup of Registry before you make any changes to it.

1. Press the Windows key + R at once 

2. Type "regedit" without the quotes >> Hit "Enter" key


3. Click on "File" option >> Click on "Export" option



4. Give a name to the file in the "File Name" field >> Choose where to save the backup file (Try to save on C:\)



5. That's it your Registry was backed up now. 

6. If you are having any issues after making changes to the registry, you can simply double click on the file that was backed up and merge the registry to go back to the original stage.

How to fix Blank screen that occurs after you start the computer in Windows 8

Some times you will see a blank screen after turning the computer ON. It is mainly because of a hardware problem or Windows Start up problem. We could try some troubleshooting steps to fix the issue.

1. Best option is to check with doing a Hard Reset

2. If that did not fix the issue, continue with the next steps

3. You need to check with Restoring the BIOS settings to default

4. Restart the computer >> Press the appropriate key to enter to the BIOS settings ( Usually the keys to enter to the BIOS will be "Del", or F1,F2 or F10) >> Here you need to look for the option that says "Restore Defaults" or related to it >> Press the appropriate key to restore the defaults

5. Restart the PC.

How to do a computer Hard Reset

You can fix many booting issues by doing a Hard Reset.

1. First thing you need to do is Shutdown the computer by pressing the Power off button.

2. If it is a Desktop >> Disconnect the Power cables, any media cards and USB devices. >> Make sure that there are no devices or cables connected to the PC >> Wait for 30 seconds >> Connect the Power cables >> Turn on the PC

3. If it is a Laptop >>  Disconnect the Power cables, any media cards and USB devices >> Remove the Battery >> Press the power button for 15 seconds and leave it >> Then connect the Batter and Power adapter >> Turn on the Laptop

4. It would fix many booting problems.


How to perform System Restore on your PC..

You can fix many application problems or virus issues and also many computer problems,  by restoring your PC to an earlier date. Your data will not be affected. Only the applications and Windows Operating System files will be restored to the date you mentioned.

To perform a System Restore:

1. Click on Start >> Click on Accessories >> Click on System Tools >> Click on System Restore

OR

Press Windows key + R key at a time >> Type "rstrui.exe" without the quotes >> Press Enter key

2. Click on "Next" >> Select a date to which you want to restore the PC. 
(You can select the box "Show more restore points" to get more restore points in Vista and Windows 7)




3. Click "Finish"  >> Click on "Yes".

Some times the computer might not detect the external devices or give errors while connecting the hardware or USB devices.



1. You can fix it by running the Microsoft Automatic Fix.

2. Click here to download the Automatic Fix and run it. It will fix most of the hardware and  USB port warnings or errors.

How to fix Startup issues in Windows 7..

We can fix the start up problems in windows 7 by performing "Startup Repair".

1. Insert the Windows 7 Installation disc >> Restart the PC.

2. On the starting screen "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD" >> Press Enter key


3. On the Windows Installation window, click "Next"


4. Now, click on the option "Repair your computer" at the bottom of the Installation Window.


5. Make sure that the Windows 7 is selected >> Click on "Next"


6. Click on the "Startup Repair" option.


7. It will scan and search for the problems and repair them automatically. Wait for it to complete the scan and repair.

8. It will give you a window that says whether there are any problems fixed or No problems found.


9. Click "Finish" >> Restart the computer.












NTLDR Missing Errors and PC won't boot on Windows XP..

There are many reasons for NTLDR Missing errors. Most common reason is, either the Master Boot Record was corrupt or any Floppy drive or external drive connected to the PC.

How to fix NTLDR errors:

1. First thing is, check if you have any Floppy drive or External drive connected to the PC.

2. Disconnect all the External drives and Floppy drive.

3. Restart the PC. If you are still getting error message, go to next steps

4. Repair the "boot.ini" file by entering in to the Windows Recovery Console.

5. If you still getting the same error, go to next steps.

6. We need to restore the NTLDR and Ntdetect.com files from Windows XP CD.

7 . Go to the Windows Recovery Console Screen

8. On the Recovery Console mode  >> Type "Copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\" without the quotes >> Press Enter key.

9. Type "Copy d:\i386\ntdetect.com" without the quotes >> Press Enter key.

In the above command "d:\" means your CD drive letter. Usually it will be "D". If it is different on your PC, then you need to give the correct letter according to your CD drive letter on your PC. "c:\" means your "C" drive on the PC.

Fix booting issues by Repairing the Master Boot Record in Windows XP...

It is very simple to repair the Mater Boot Record in Windows XP.

1. Go to the Windows Recovery Console screen.

2. On the Recovery Console mode >> Type "fixmbr" without the quotes >> Press Enter key.

3. In the next prompt >> Type Y and press Enter key

3. It will repair the corrupt or damaged Master Boot Record.

Repair Boot.ini in Windows XP Operating System..


1. We need to go to the Windows Recovery Console screen.

Click here to know how to enter in to the Recover Console using Windows XP CD.

2. Once you are in recovery console mode, type bootcfg /rebuild and press Enter key.

3.The bootcfg will scan your hard drive and display the results.

4. For "Add Installation to boot list? (Yes/No/All), type Y and press Enter key

5. It will ask you to enter the Load Identifier.
   You have to type your Operating System name. Example "Windows XP Home Edition" or "Windows XP Professional" etc... and press Enter key

6. Now, it will ask you to Enter OS Load options >> Type "/Fastdetect" without the quotes >> Press Enter key

7. Remove the CD from the drive >> Type "Exit" on the recovery console screen >> Restart the PC.

How to boot in to Windows Recovery Console screen Windows XP...

1. Insert Windows XP CD and restart the PC.

2. You will get a screen that says "Press any key to boot from CD...




3. Press "Enter" key or any key on your Keyboard.

4. You will get the "Windows Setup" screen. Please wait until complete the setup.


5. Once the Setup loading completed, you will get a screen giving you three options.


6. Press "R" key to enter in to the Recover Console screen.



7. Type the number "1" and Press Enter key >> Enter the Administrator account Password and press Enter key.


8. Now, we have entered in to the Recover mode successfully.
